An exciting market for sportsbook players is the over/under market. This is one of the most popular markets for gamblers. This essentially is about betting on the total number of goals in a game over the course of 90 minutes. All you have to do is determine whether a game will have three goals or more, or two goals or less.
You can bet on either over or under the total, called the goal-line. All sounds simple right. Think again.
The reason for the 2.5 goals benchmark, or the goal line as it called, is that the average number of goals in a game has been determined as being between 2.4 and 2.6 a game.
So far this season [up to 11th October 2014] there have been 70 premier league games. So far 38 of those games have had over 2.5 goals with 32 under. This gives you an example of just how close a market it, which only adds to the allure.
If you bet under the goal-line of 2.5 goals then you need both teams to score less than two goals. If you bet over the goal-line then you need the teams to score at least three goals. If you do your research then there is nothing more gratifying then seeing an over/under 2.5 goal bet come in.
The saying goes that 2-0 is the most dangerous lead in football so if you see teams race into this kind of lead chances are the hands have been rubbed in glee.
A late consolation goal or a spirited fight back ensured your selection. The stats make your selection seem plausible. More goals are scored in the second half then they are scored in first half.
Of course that is not always the case of course but this is a market definitely worth research. Looking at the stats available helps you determine your choices. For example, four of Chelsea’s games this season have been over 2.5, all have which have come against smaller sides. Liverpool meanwhile have been involved in five games over 2.5 goals, no surprise really given their porous defense and prolific attacking capabilities.
Even, Arsenal, long considered the great entertainers of the league but struggling for rhythm in the early weeks of the season have been involved in five games with 2.5 goals or over. Burnley meanwhile have been involved in four games under 2.5 which given their focus on defense and a failure to score goals make perfect sense.
